NYT Proto Feminism

Full Cover piece for The New York Times Arts and Leisure Proto Feminism in pop culture! Art Direction by the incredible Jennifer Ledbury
.

“On Yassifying The Women of History—What gets lost when ‘Dickinson’ and ‘The Great’ and ‘Six’ plunder the past for contemporary feminism. Written by Alexis Soloski.

.

The main cover figure is based on Emily Dickinson’s likeness. It was fun to research details on her clothes, room, wallpaper, and even found drawings of her dog, Carlo! I included him in the frame details. Thanks to the Emily Dickinson Museum for being a great source of visual research.

.
The secondary piece is based on Catherine the Great.
